Fernandina Beach Chiropractic Nutrition Plan for Osteoporosis & Osteoarthritis

Nutrition. Good nutrition is a good foundation for a healthy body. In this Fernandina Beach chiropractic practice, we consult with patients who have conditions like osteoporosis and osteoarthritis that develop over time. Their potential prevention and treatment are foundationally rooted in early-life nutrition practices that are maintained and/or improved upon throughout life. Amelia Chiropractic Clinic describes recent research on the significance of vitamins A, C and D as well as glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate for bones and joints and overall health.

HEALTHY CELLS, CARTILAGE, & BONE PREVENT DISEASES LIKE OSTEOPOROSIS & OSTEOARTHRITIS

Optimal nutrition status protects the body and keeps it strong and healthy. Research has demonstrated the advantages of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate in slowing osteoarthritis of the knee. Researchers now plan to study how nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants and other natural components in a normal diet may be beneficial. (1) Optimal bone and cartilage metabolism defends against issues like osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) regulates bone and cartilage metabolism at the cellular level – even into the nucleus of the cell – of osteoblasts and chondrocytes. (2) The metabolism of articular cartilage relies on chondroprotectors (CPs) that influence the regeneration of cartilage surfaces and joint capsules. In osteoarthritis and low back pain, loss of chondroitin sulfate and hyaline cartilage is seen. Some methods to remedy this situation involved injections of CPs. (3) Other methods incorporated oral supplementation as diet is not often a source of these CPs. Oral supplementation is also a favored way to improve vitamin D levels as low levels of vitamin D are known to contribute  to conditions like osteoporosis, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, some cancer types, and overweight/obese status. Vitamin D is essential, but its natural sources like fatty fish and eggs are not usually part of most people’s day-to-day diets. In Spain, at least 50% of the population is deficient in vitamin D. Researchers recommended that Spain find a way to encourage people to eat eggs to reduce the vitamin D deficiency and protect against future diseases. (4) It’s especially critical for those who have a mix of issues - osteoporosis, vitamin D deficiency and high fracture/fall risk – to keep up their supplementation of vitamin D. (5) Feeding yourself goes so much further than feeding your stomach and satisfying your taste buds! The food you eat and the supplements you take keep your body performing, healthy and strong.
