Fernandina Beach Chiropractic Nutrition Tip: Strawberries and Blueberries Protect Your Heart!

Chiropractic is all about health. And when healthy food is shown to be super-healthy, Amelia Chiropractic Clinic wants to share the news! Be forewarned: You’re going to want to up your strawberry and blueberry munching!

THE STUDY

A study of 93,600 women can’t be wrong!

This is a huge study. In 1989, researchers started studying young and middle-aged women nurses aged 26-42 years. They looked at the dietary intake of anthocyanins and other flavonoids and the risk of myocardial infarction in these women. They have followed them for 18 years so far! Now that’s a feat!

OUTCOME

These researchers found that women who ate the most blueberries and strawberries had a 32% reduction in heart attack risk compared to those who only ate them once a month or less. (2,3) How easy! Eat more strawberries and blueberries! We know our Fernandina Beach chiropractic patients can do this.

HOW?

Anthocyanins are types of dietary antioxidant flavonoids found in the food you eat, specifically in the red, purple, or blue foods. Chocolate, grapes, red wine, blackberries, strawberries and blueberries teem with dietary flavonoids. No supplements needed to get them! Check out the blueberry-strawberry smoothie recipe Amelia Chiropractic Clinic found. (1) It’s pretty and tasty!

Now, these flavonoids help by dilating blood vessels and by offsetting the plaque build-up in coronary arteries that may cause blockages and eventually heart attacks. In this new study, combined strawberry and blueberry consumption really stood out. (3) Not only is Amelia Chiropractic Clinic here for your spine but your heart, too!

But starting early in life to reduce these possibilities is key. So, young ladies, start eating your berries! Contact Amelia Chiropractic Clinic for your healthy Fernandina Beach chiropractic appointment, too. Maybe we can share recipes?!
